1ST HOUR

Write on!

Explore art journaling as we color, paint, and collage in our journals each week, as well as incorporate creative writing! Receive your own journal on the first week of class and add to it each week. In this fun, nontraditional class, we will explore poetry techniques and have the opportunity to share our work with each other on a regular basis. At the end of the semester you will be able to take your journal home and look back on all you did and keep adding more!

Workload: 1 (students will occasionally be asked to finish writing assignments at home)

Beginning Writing - Returning students only

Fledgling writers learn to compose with structure and style. Using source materials, students will take notes and summarize narrative stories. With the help of a good thesaurus, kids will add strong words to dress up their essays, no boring words allowed. This class will focus on the fundamentals of a sound paragraph and is designed to equip students for more advanced IEW essay writing.

2ND HOUR

Social Beacons

Learning how to deal with life can be hard at times. We all have big emotions which can be hard to understand! We also deal with tough life situations. How do I be a good friend to my current friends? What if my friends want me to do something bad? How can I help others feel loved and welcome? How do I deal with a…BULLY? We will come together to talk about how to deal in life and also do some role playing and other social activities! Life is meant to be done together! Let’s learn HOW to do life together and be God’s light to those around us.

Speak Up: Intro to Public Speaking

It is never too early to become familiar with public speaking! We’ll start with simple introductions, some show and tell presentations, and story telling. We will then move on to learn about other types of speeches: impromptu, informative, demonstrative, persuasive, and even entertaining. You will also become familiar with basic communication skills, such as eye contact and body language.

3RD HOUR

Finance Jr.

Financial Peace Jr will equip kids with knowledge on how to handle money and be money-smart. Through fun stories and activities, kids will learn the value of working, giving, saving, and spending lessons that will build their character and help them with money and in life.

Food Science and Nutrition

Discovering food through different types of experiments and learning activities. Students will explore methods for making food, what different foods are made from, and what food does inside your body. If your kids are always curiously asking questions such as: Why do crackers have holes? Why do peppers taste hot? How is ice cream made, or Why does bread get moldy? then this is the class for them!

4TH HOUR

Run, Jump, Play

Learn new games and play old favorites in this group games class. Spend the last part of your morning running and playing with your friends. We will devote time to learning and playing structured games and throw in a little free time as well. You'll be free to shake out the sillies in this class

Materials Fee: $15 (new equipment needs to be purchased)
Required Supplies: Sneakers or comfortable shoes for playing and occasionally a jacket for outdoor play when the weather is warmer

Amazing Anatomy

Hearts and Lungs and Bones!! Oh My! Do YOU think you have the “GUTS” to learn about EXACTLY what happens to that pizza after you swallow it? If so, then join us as we learn about the many miraculous systems that are working inside your body.

Materials Fee: $20 (Any money not used will be returned the last day of class.)
