1ST HOUR

Beginning Writing - Returning students only

Fledgling writers will learn to compose with structure and style. Using source materials, students will take notes and summarize narrative stories. With the help of a good thesaurus, kids will add strong words to dress up their essays, no boring words allowed. This class will focus on the fundamentals of a sound paragraph and is designed to equip students for more advanced IEW essay writing.

2ND HOUR

Road Trip’n

Travel my way, take the highway that’s best. Get your kicks…Time for a trip…A road trip! Join me as we travel the 50 United States! We will learn important things about each state and where they are located on the map. Don’t expect this class to be only filled with worksheets, oh no! It’s a long way down the holiday road…we need to fill our travel time with songs, games, and journal about our adventures so the trip won’t seem so long. I’m sitting in the railway station, got a ticket to my destination…I’m leaving on a jet plane…will you pack up and join us on the road?

3RD HOUR

Beginning Gardening and Plant Science

Are you interested in learning about how plants grow? Have you ever wanted to learn to grow your own food or flowers? We will learn about plants, do some fun experiments with plants and seeds, and also grow some plants from seed that can be the beginning of a thriving garden for the coming spring. Students will also learn several different ways to plant a garden, some of which do not include digging up the yard! If your child has ever wanted to farm or garden or play in the dirt, this class might be for them.

Basic Truths of the Christian Faith

In this class we will be using our bibles to find the answers to so many questions we may have or questions that others may have of us regarding our faith in Jesus. Questions such as: What is sin? Will God allow our sin to go unpunished? What does justification mean? These answers help us to understand and know why we believe what we believe and that the God of scripture truly is the One True God!

4TH HOUR

Moses: Ordinary to Extraordinary

The Journey of the Israelites continues! This semester we will be wondering through the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy; hopefully it won’t take 40 years! Class Structure will be prayer, bible reading passage, teacher led lesson and explanation on bible passage. During lessons, students will be encouraged to listen intently and jot down questions. We will dig deep into the text to discuss the aim (what God wants us to know) and discover truths about God and how we can apply those truths to our lives today. Each week we will learn a different attribute of God found within bible lesson. Students will be encouraged (though NOT required) to re-read the text throughout the week. They will also be encouraged (though NOT required) to read the text to be discussed the following week. Assignments include looking for God’s attribute during the week. Example: How have you seen God as faithful this week?

Game of Life

Will you earn the salary of a banker, a policeman, or a sales clerk? Fill out a job application and then the game begins! We are going to bring the Game of Life…to life! We will learn about budgeting, managing a loan, balancing a checkbook, making scheduled payments, discover the importance of saving money and more all while we turn the classroom and your fellow students into a little micro-economy. Learn about finances without sitting through a boring lecture, learn as you experience it first hand. So will you roll the dice and take a chance on this board game come alive?
